THE ROTARY CLUB OF ACCRA-AIRPORT UNDERTAKES PROJECTS TO EMPOWER STUDENTS AND BUSINESSWOMEN
The Rotary Club of Accra-Airport started its Rotary year with two impactful initiatives that underscored its enduring commitment to service, education, and economic empowerment.
Back to School: Investing in the Future
On 30 August 2025, the Club, in partnership with the Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF), held its annual Back-to-School programme at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church and Primary School. Led by Club President Kojo Nunoo and Project Director Rtn Felix Kissiedu-Addi, the event provided bags, books, and stationery to pupils preparing for the new academic year. This initiative, now in its tenth year, has become a lifeline for many young learners.

Club President Nunoo reflected on its impact, noting that some children supported since Class One are now in JHS, while others have progressed to higher education, such as Engineering at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC).
He thanked Club members for their dedication, adding, “For some of these children, we have been with them from the very beginning. This is the power of service. Let us continue to Unite for Good.”

Microfinance: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
The Club also launched a new phase of its Microfinance Project, with support from the Rotary Club of Stainsborough, UK. This cycle is providing loans to 10 women from Akramang, Gomoa East, in the Central Region, enabling them to expand and grow their businesses.

The program builds on three successful loan cycles in Ofankor, which delivered remarkable outcomes. One beneficiary from Ofankor shared her journey from selling provisions on a tabletop to owning a container shop and diversifying into the water business—proof of the project’s transformative impact.
Club President Nunoo encouraged the women, reminding them, among other advice, that: “When you move forward, your families, neighbourhoods, and indeed the whole country move forward.”

Past Assistant Governor (PAG) Theresa Osei-Tutu further inspired the group, emphasising that empowerment begins within: “This loan is not an end in itself but a key to open up opportunities for growth.”

The launch, organised in collaboration with the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, was attended by several Rotarians who worked with the women to help them make the most of their loans. Project partners reaffirmed their support, emphasising the collective spirit behind the initiative.
Through these twin projects, the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport continues to demonstrate that true service means more than charity. It is about fellowship, empowerment, and transformation — the essence of Rotary’s call to serve humanity.
