ROTARY CLUB OF ACCRA-ADJIRINGANOR COMMISSIONS SOLAR EXTERNAL LIGHTS AT ADJIRINGANOR BASIC SCHOOL
The Rotary Club of Accra-Adjiringanor, in partnership with Nocheski Solar Lights, officially commissioned a set of solar-powered external lights for the Adjiringanor Basic School. The project, valued at Gh11,000, provided six eco-friendly solar lighting units and aims to improve safety and security within the school environment.
This intervention addresses concerns raised by the headmistress about total blackouts on the school grounds at night, which have created opportunities for intruders and drug users to break into classrooms and the school library, especially during school recess periods.
After an evening visit to assess the situation firsthand, the Club recognised the urgent need to improve security and protect the school’s learning materials and property. In addition to security measures, the lighting system provides a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution, reducing the school’s reliance on the national electricity grid.
The commissioning ceremony was met with heartfelt excitement from the staff and pupils, who could not hide their joy and relief. The school staff and the PTA Chairman expressed profound appreciation to the Rotary Club of Accra Adjiringanor for their continued support. The school also requested that a Rotary flag be mounted on the school grounds alongside the Ghana flag, recognising the Club’s consistent contribution to the school’s development.
The newly installed solar lights represent hope, safety, and a renewed dedication to academic excellence. The direct beneficiaries of the project are the pupils of Adjiringanor Basic School and members of the immediate community, who will now enjoy a safer and better-lit environment. The project, themed “Lighting Up a School to Unite for Excellence,’ reflects our commitment to creating a safer, more conducive environment for teaching and learning, while supporting the school’s pursuit of excellence.
