FIRSTBANK GHANA SUPPORTS ROTARACT DISTRICT 9104’S “CLEAN AND GREEN GHANA” PROJECT

Rotaract District 9104 has taken a bold step toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Ghana through its Clean and Green Ghana Project. With a generous GHS 20,000 support from First Bank Ghana, the project aims to promote responsible waste management and environmental consciousness across schools and communities.

The project officially launched on August 23, marking the start of a transformative journey that brings together Rotaractors, Interactors, and students across the country to take practical action to protect the environment.

Building Capacity for Sustainability

As part of this initiative, Rotaractors and Interactors received hands-on training, and the team donated a waste receptacle to St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, marking the first in a series of school donations. Each donation is accompanied by a training session to ensure students and staff understand how to properly segregate waste and maintain a clean environment.

The next batch of donations will continue this model, with one scheduled for World Interact Day and another at a different school soon after.

Expanding Impact Across 30 Schools

The Clean and Green Ghana Project is designed to reach at least 30 schools, including both primary and secondary institutions. The goal is to promote sustainable waste management practices, reduce non-recyclable waste by 10%, and enhance awareness around environmental protection and climate action.

Over a 12-month period, Rotaract District 9104 will roll out structured training programs, develop essential waste management infrastructure, and establish sustainability-focused clubs in schools without existing Interact Clubs.

Key Objectives of the Project

  • Establish and support sustainability-focused Interact Clubs:
By forming clubs centered on sustainable waste management, the project aims to cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious young leaders who will champion eco-friendly practices in their communities.
  • Provide comprehensive upcycling training:
Students will learn how to transform segregated waste into valuable resources, inspiring innovation and entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Promote sustainable waste segregation:
Through consistent education and club-led initiatives, the project seeks to significantly increase the volume of recyclable materials diverted from landfills.
  • Ensure long-term sustainability:
By empowering school clubs to take charge of their waste management practices, the project’s impact will extend far beyond its initial implementation phase, creating lasting behavioral change.
  • Distribute transparent waste bins to classrooms:
To make waste segregation practical and visible, classrooms will receive small transparent bins, encouraging students to sort waste properly from the source.

A Shared Commitment to Change

The Clean and Green Ghana Project is a movement to reshape how the next generation thinks about waste and sustainability, and with the partnership of First Bank Ghana and the passion of Rotaractors and Interactors across District 9104, this initiative sets the stage for a cleaner environment and a stronger culture of responsibility among young people.

Through education, innovation, and collaboration, Rotaract District 9104 is proving that small, consistent actions can create a big difference in one school, one student, and one clean community at a time.
