DISTRICT GOVERNOR NANA YAA POKUA SIRIBOE VISITS THE ROTARY CLUB OF ACCRA ACHIMOTA GREY CITY AND TOURS ITS SERVICE PROJECT
What happens when a school proprietress, a Rotary club that meets in a school, and a school service project all come together? This is the perfect backdrop for the District 9104 Governor’s visit to the Rotary Club of Accra Achimota Grey City.
On Saturday, 6th September 2025, the Rotary Club of Accra Achimota Grey City had the honour of welcoming District Governor (DG) Nana Yaa Pokua Siriboe to its Service Project at Abofu Presby Basic School. The project involves renovating the washrooms and drilling a borehole to provide water for students and teachers. She was warmly received with a traditional Kente stole by the Headmistress, Mrs. Aboagye, together with Rotary Club President Samuel Tamakloe.
Together with the club’s board members, DG Nana Yaa toured the school, visiting classrooms, the newly renovated sanitary block, and the recently dug borehole. The project, valued at approximately USD 10,000, will provide the over 500 students at the school with clean and safe facilities, helping them stay in school and enhance teaching and learning. With support from the Rotary Club of Pleasanton, the project will also include fencing the area, which is yet to be completed.
For the headmistress, the project represents dignity and focus. She shared her belief that by removing everyday barriers such as the lack of clean water and proper washrooms, children can study with confidence and aim higher in their national BECE exams.
DG Nana Yaa, herself an educationist and school owner, announced a special challenge for final year Junior High School (JHS) students of the school, offering a cash prize for the best essay on “Why our school deserves more support from Rotary.”
The visit continued at the club’s meeting venue, where DG Nana Yaa engaged members, first with a board meeting and then with a general meeting, on strategies to grow membership, energise meetings, and strengthen fundraising for both District 9104 and Rotary International.
The day was also a celebration of milestones, where,
- Rtn. Maame Agyei was recognised as the newest Paul Harris Fellow for her generous contribution of USD 1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.
• Miles Philip Ansah, Emmanuel Apetsi, and Anthony Owusu were formally inducted as members of the club, joining the global Rotary family of 1.4 million Rotarians.
DG Nana Yaa summed it up best, “From a young and small club, this is great work. This is what it means to be a Rotarian, to positively impact lives.”
Accompanying her on the visit were AG Afua Ababio, PAG Jerry Otchi, District Treasurer, and PP Theresa Agbodo, District Secretary.
In every way, the visit reflected Rotary’s September theme of Basic Education & Literacy Month: the inspection of works at Abofu Presbyterian School by a District Governor who is herself an educationist, the fact that Achimota Grey City is a club rooted in a school, and the commitment of Rotarians to ensuring that dignity and opportunity remain integral to every child’s educational journey.
