ROTARY CLUB OF KUMASI PREMIER INTERNATIONAL AND KUMASI METROPOLITAN ASSEMBLY (KMA) OFFER FREE BREAST AND PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING FOR ASAFO MARKET WOMEN

In a significant effort to promote preventive healthcare and combat the growing threat of cancer, the Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International, in collaboration with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has organised a free breast and prostate cancer screening exercise for traders at the Asafo Market in the Ashanti Regional capital. The initiative formed part of the global Pink Month campaign, held under the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives.” It aimed at encouraging early diagnosis while raising awareness about the dangers of breast and prostate cancer.

The event drew hundreds of market women who took the chance to get free medical screening and receive essential health education from qualified healthcare professionals. The initiative aimed to promote early detection, encourage regular check-ups, and curb the rising trend of cancer-related deaths in the region.

Speaking on behalf of the Kumasi Mayor, Mrs. Raiza Baba, Assistant Director at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, emphasised the need for the general public, especially women, to make regular medical examinations a habit. She advised that while prayer and faith are vital aspects of life, individuals must also take practical measures to safeguard their health through preventive care and early intervention. Mrs. Baba praised the Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International for partnering with the Assembly to deliver such a life-saving initiative and reaffirmed KMA’s commitment to supporting health-focused programmes that directly benefit the community.

The President of the Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International, Mr. Avinash Lakhani, expressed the club’s strong commitment to sustaining similar health programmes beyond the Pink Month celebration. He explained that the Rotary Club would extend such outreach activities to other communities within and outside Kumasi to ensure that more people benefit from early detection and proper health education. According to him, the initiative is part of Rotary’s broader mission to promote good health and improve community well-being through service and partnership.
