ROTARY CLUB OF ACCRA-SPINTEX SHINES WITH THE POWER OF GOODNESS VIDEO COMPETITION
The Accra-Spintex Rotary Club has placed Ghana on the Rotary map as the second runner-up in the prestigious Power of Goodness Video Competition, organised by Rotary Zones 21 and 22. Out of 90 videos submitted by clubs from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Accra-Spintex’s notable contribution stood out for its story of service, creativity, and environmental conservation.
On the 27th September 2025, the award was received on behalf of the club by Past President and current Public Image Chair, Rtn. Nortse Amarteifio, at the 5th Power of Goodness Award Ceremony. The ceremony was held with great enthusiasm at The Square in Brussels, where FUSION 2025 took place. Dignitaries such as Rotary International President-Elect (RIPE) Yinka Babalola and Rotary International Director (RID) Daniel Tanase graced the event, marking the global relevance of the competition.
Accra-Spintex’s winning video showcased the club’s mechanised beach clean-up and tree-planting project. This project is intended to preserve the regional marine environment but also promote Rotary’s ongoing environmental focus, one of its Seven Areas of Focus. The project’s blend of technology and community involvement set a precedent for green service in District 9104 and across the world.
The Power of Goodness contest is designed to recognise the best Rotary storytelling. Clubs are invited to submit 2–3 minute videos showcasing how they are making a difference in their communities, adhering to Rotary’s brand and identity guidelines. Winners are judged on creativity, community impact, technical quality, and alignment with Rotary’s mission.
For Accra-Spintex, the award affirms the club’s philosophy of innovation and dedication. Since its charter in 2012, the club has distinguished itself by initiating service projects, including donating mobility devices to marginalised communities, installing solar energy systems in rural health facilities, and advocating for education among impoverished children.
On behalf of District 9104 and the club, Rtn. Nortse Amarteifio had this to say on receiving the award: “This award is not only for Accra-Spintex but for all Rotarians in Ghana who hold the belief of using innovation and service to impact the lives of people. Our tree planting and beach clean-up project was a symbol of how Rotary develops—introducing new technology and combining it with universal principles of service before self.”
As Rotary International encourages clubs to increase their impact through compelling public image initiatives, Accra-Spintex’s success provides an inspiring example. It demonstrates that when Rotarians utilise the power of storytelling, the world pays attention. The challenge now posed to clubs everywhere is: tell your story, make a difference, and show the Power of Goodness through service.
