ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT-ELECT OLAYINKA HAKEEM BABALOLA VISITS GHANA
September 4, 2025, will be remembered by Rotarians and Rotaractors in District 9104 as a night of history and pride. Despite the short notice of the invitation, Rotarians and Rotaractors turned out in large numbers to meet Rotary International President-Elect (RIPE) Olayinka Hakeem Babalola at the Lancaster Hotel in Accra. Ghana is the first country RIPE Olayinka is visiting following the announcement of his election on 28th August 2025.
The evening combined celebration with a purpose. District Governor Nana Yaa Pokua Siriboe warmly welcomed everyone and connected her remarks to a touching moment, celebrating Past Rotary International Director (PRID) Sam Okudzeto’s 90th birthday. PRID Sam has been a Rotarian since 1967 and has served in many roles within Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
The hall filled with delight as Rotarians sang joyfully, and smiles spread as the venerable leader danced with youthful vigour.
PDG Dr. Tunji Funsho reminded everyone of the ongoing battle against polio, urging clubs to think creatively about fundraising and advocacy.
PRID Sam then used his talent for storytelling to introduce the President-Elect. His reflections on Africa’s Rotary pioneers made the introduction profoundly meaningful, showing how far the continent has made on its long journey to leadership.
When RIPE Olayinka spoke, his message was clear and passionate: “Make your clubs excellent, attractive, irresistible. Leave behind quarrels, reconcile, and let Africa lead.” He challenged the continent to grow from 40,000 to 60,000 members by 2026 to secure two Rotary zones.
RIPE Yinka assured Rotarians that if they were ready to support him, “We go work.” That simple phrase became the slogan many carried home, a call for every Rotarian to make a meaningful contribution.
Arch Klumph Society Member and Endowment & Major Gifts Advisor (EMGA), PDG Yvonne Kumoji-Darko, expressed her gratitude to the Rotary family present with a vote of thanks.
Arch Klumph Society Member and Assistant Region 27 Rotary Foundation Coordinator, PDG Dave Amankwaa Jnr, toasted with the Rotary Family with the resolve “WORK DEY”
