Rotary Club of Akosombo-Dam City and Twenty – Five other Clubs Unite for Transformative Health Project in Yonguase
Yonguase, Ghana – 26 July 2025 – In a remarkable display of service and collaboration, the Rotary Club of Akosombo-Dam City, alongside 21 other Rotary Clubs, two Rotaract Clubs, and two Interact Clubs, organised a large-scale health screening exercise in Yonguase. The event, held with the participation of District 9104 Governor Nana Yaa Pokua Siriboe, brought critical healthcare services to over 547 residents, reinforcing Rotary’s commitment to community well-being.
A Mission to Serve
Rotarian Club President Ernestina Yormekpe of the Rotary Club of Akosombo-Dam City highlighted the initiative’s significance, stating, “As Rotarians, our mission is to make a positive impact in the lives of those around us. This health screening promotes wellness, detects potential health issues early, and ensures access to vital healthcare resources.”
District 9104 Governor Nana Yaa Pokua Siriboe reiterated this sentiment, emphasising Rotary’s broader mission: “Our goal is to support deprived communities through social interventions—providing clean water, quality education, vocational training, maternal care, and healthcare. Today, we bring these services to Yonguase.”
Comprehensive Health Services Provided
The health screening served children (3–18 years) and adults (19–78 years), with a notable participation of women. Key services included:
– General Health Checks: Blood pressure (BP) monitoring, BMI assessments, Hepatitis B screening, and malaria testing.
– Specialised Care: Dental and ENT consultations.
– Malaria Prevention: Distribution of 200 insecticide-treated bed nets to households.
– NHIS Enrolment: 200 individuals registered for free under the National Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring continued healthcare access.
Strengthening Community Health & Education
Beyond medical screenings, the event featured:
– Health Talks: Educating residents on disease prevention and healthy living.
– Breakfast for School Children: Ensuring children were nourished before screenings.
