Rotary Club of Accra-Achimota Grey City Community Engagement with parents at Abofu Presby School.

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, members of the Rotary Club of Accra-Achimota Grey City held a meaningful community engagement with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School management and Church representatives of the Abofu Presby Basic school. This meeting marked a significant step as we prepare to embark on Phase 2 of the Abofu Washroom Renovation Project.

The purpose of the engagement was to ensure alignment with the community’s needs and goals, a core principle of Rotary’s commitment to impactful service. During the session, Rotarians reaffirmed the importance of the project in improving sanitation and educated the community on strategies for maintaining the toilet facility after completion.

By actively involving the residents in the planning process, the Rotary club aims to  foster a sense of ownership that will guarantee the long-term success and sustainability of the project. Together, Rotarians are working toward creating healthier and more hygienic conditions for the students and the community at large. The long term impact of this will be to improve student attainment and progress; as absenteeism due to the lack of washrooms is having a negative impact on students

This engagement is a testament to Rotary’s dedication to creating lasting change in the communities we serve.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving lives and addressing critical community needs, the Rotary Club of Accra-Achimota Grey City held a key engagement with the Abofu community on Thursday, January 16, 2025. This meeting was in preparation for the Phase 2 implementation of the Abofu Washroom Renovation Project.

Phase 1 of this project, which improved sanitation facilities for the students of Abofu Presby Basic School, made a significant impact. Building on that success, our club is poised to complete the washroom renovations in Phase 2, ensuring long-term hygiene and comfort for the school and community.

The engagement session was designed to:

  1. Confirm alignment with the community’s goals and ensure that the project meets their immediate needs.
  2. Discuss maintenance plans for the renovated washrooms to guarantee sustainability after the project’s completion.
  3. Educate community members on hygiene practices and the importance of safeguarding the facilities.

The dialogue was fruitful, as community members actively shared their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions. It was evident that the people of Abofu are eager and committed to taking full ownership of the project upon completion.

This collaboration underscores Rotary’s belief in “Service Above Self” and the power of partnerships to achieve meaningful and sustainable change. Together, we are demonstrating that “You Can Help!”—a message that has resonated throughout our initiatives.

As we move forward, we encourage all members of the Rotary family, donors, and supporters to remain committed to this worthy cause. The completion of Phase 2 will not only transform the washroom facilities but also uplift the spirit of the entire Abofu community.

Let us continue to be people of action and bring this vision to fruition. Together, we make a difference!
